The world’s greatest mom, mawmaw and biscuit maker, Mrs. Thra (Brannon) Hicks, passed away peacefully with her family by her side in Niceville, FL on August 5, 2018 at the age of 93. Mrs. Hicks, a resident of Niceville since 1945, was born in 1924 in Hickory Nut Ridge, AL and lived for many years in Sanford, AL where she attended Straughn School. She married her high school sweetheart, J. B Hicks, in 1945 after his return from service during WWII and supported him throughout his Air Force career including extended tours in Korea and Vietnam. Thra was an accomplished painter, seamstress, quilter, and southern cook.
Thra is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, J.B. Hicks, as well as her parents, Charles and Lelia Brannon, and brother, Berman Brannon.
Left to celebrate her life are her son Larry Hicks and daughter-in-law Deborah Hicks, daughter Margaret Sutsko, daughter Ginger Maggiore and son-in-law Bob Maggiore, beloved grandchildren Alexander and Alison Sutkso, Daniel and Kerry Sutsko, Ceara Maggiore, Jake Maggiore, Luke Maggiore and four great grandchildren, Brannon, Micaela, Harrison and Brooks, her big brother LaFelt Brannon, little sister, Faye Floyd, and many cherished nieces and nephews.Funeral services are planned for Thursday, August 9, at McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home in Niceville, FL. Visitation will begin at 10:30 and the service will begin at noon.
