Mary Ethel (Griffith) Sasser, 91, of Niceville, Florida died May 26, 2019, at Bay Breeze Nursing Home in Gulf Breeze, Florida. Born November 24, 1927 in Baker, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Mancil and Effie (Mount) Griffith. On April 27, 1945 she married the love of her life, James W. Sasser, who preceded her in death on September 17, 2001.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary E. Kirkland and her son John M. (Linda) Sasser. Her oldest son, James W. Sasser, Jr. went to be with the Lord in June 2016. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Scott (Jessica) Lagerveld of Blackshear, GA; Adam Lagerveld of Niceville, FL; Billy (Katie) Flynn of Blackshear, GA; Bobby (Michele) Flynn of Blackshear, GA; Theresa (Chester) Clemons of Blackshear, GA; Kathy Cohen of Atlanta, GA; Jamie Sasser of Denver, CO daughter-in-law Terri Sasser of Montgomery, AL and 10 great-grandchildren. One great grandson, Hayden Cohen preceded her in death in 2016. Mary was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Wanda Sasser.
Mother was a member of Rosemont Baptist Church in Niceville. She taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She was a part of many activities in the Church including Women’s Missionary Union, which she was president for many years, Vacation Bible School, and many other women’s activities. She volunteered at Twin Cities Hospital. She was president of the hospital auxiliary for several years.
She and Daddy were farmers at heart. After he retired from Eglin, they farmed a half acre of ground and fed most of the Church with fresh fruits and vegetables.
Mother’s funeral will be May 31, 2019 at 11 o’clock, at Rosemont Baptist Church with an hour of visitation before the service. Rev. Doug Fannon will be in charge of the service. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Valparaiso.
