Marlene Davis Bordenave was born on Jan. 9, 1934 in New Orleans. She was the beloved wife of Paul Basil Bordenave, Sr. for 58 years prior to his death. The two filled their home with love for their four children, Paul (Joy) Bordenave, Jr., Ave Maria (Jim) Collins, Fr. Ian Bordenave, O.P., and Sean (Liz) Bordenave. Marlene served as an early education teacher in the Okaloosa County School District for nearly 30 years. After receiving the last rites from her son, Fr. Ian, Marlene, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018 surrounded by family.
She was affectionately known as “MeMere” to her twelve grandchildren, Christopher (Stephanie) Bordenave, Jeffery (Jess) Bordenave, Megan Bordenave, Damian Bordenave, Danielle (Jason) Scaglione, Brendan (Sarah) Collins, Dominic (Kylie) Collins, Madeleine (Craig) Schaefer, Manuel Bordenave, Patrick Bordenave, Theresa Bordenave, and Claire Bordenave. She was a proud great-grandmother of seven great-grandkids, Gianna Bordenave, Logan Bordenave, Gabriel Bordenave, Isla Schaefer, Paul Schaefer, Callan Collins, and Jayce Collins.
Marlene’s visitation will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Niceville, Florida, on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on January 3, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. Burial will immediately follow at Sunset Cemetery in Valparaiso, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Niceville or to St. Mary Catholic School in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
