Marjorie “Margie” Ellen Gettinger, age 86, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2021 in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida.
Margie was the youngest of nine children from a small lead mining town in Missouri. She came from very humble beginnings and knew at a young age that she wanted to be a teacher and make a difference in the lives of others. She pursued her degree in education part-time while raising a family. In 1972 she moved to Fort Walton Beach and later fulfilled that dream teaching at Cherokee Elementary School for over 20 years. She retired in 1995 to dedicate more of her time to her grandchildren and years later her great grandchildren.
Margie will always be remembered as being very selfless, generous and giving. She supported many charities and was very passionate about St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She strongly believed in positive thinking and the power of prayer through Jesus. Her faith gave her strength and ultimately peace as she moved on to be in heaven.
Margie is survived by her three children, Paula, Greg and Ken; three grandchildren, Joseph, Jennifer and Jan; two great grandchildren, Miles and Delaney; sister, Barbara Nooter; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home in Niceville, Florida followed by interment at Sunset Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
