Tribute

Our beloved Husband, Father and Brother, Lawrence Joseph Howard, 76, of Niceville, FL, sadly passed away on Sunday 20 August 2023 and is now at peace with Jesus, looking down on us and guiding our family.

Lawrence (Larry) Howard was born on September 9, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY to Frank and Katherine Howard where he grew up with his brother Frank and sisters Eileen and Kathy.

After graduating High School, Lawrence enlisted in the U.S. Army and was soon stationed in Bavaria Germany where he met the love of his life, Renate.  Larry and Renee (her American nickname) were married on 28 July 1967 in the picturesque small town of Weiden, Germany. Larry served in Vietnam, completed multiple tours overseas, received numerous achievement medals, and after 20 years of service, retired having achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer (CW2).

His second career with Daimler Trucks North America (Freightliner) took him and Renate to Portland Oregon where they worked and lived for 30 years, until retiring to Niceville, Florida in 2016. He loved living in Florida and thoroughly enjoyed his time playing golf and sailing with his friends.

Lawrence is survived by his spouse, Renate Howard, daughter Silvia Miller (Gerard), son Lawrence Howard, Jr. (Jennifer), brother Frank Howard and sister Eileen Howard.

Words cannot express the deep grief our family feels after his sudden illness and passing.  He was full of life and was always there when someone needed a hand. We miss him so much and he will forever live in our hearts.

A mass memorial service will be held in his honor on September 8th, 2023 at Holy Family St. Thomas Aquinas in Brooklyn, NY at 12:15 p.m. and a Celebration of Life will take place in the near future for family and friends.

Donations in his memory can be made to Wounded Warriors at: www.woundedwarriorproject.org
