Henry J. Heyen, Jr.

Hank passed away on July 13, 2018, leaving his wife of 30 years,Janice, his son, Matthew,  of Kennesaw, Georgia, two brothers, Edward of Rio Rancho New Mexico (Miriam) and William (Hanny) of Brockport NY, many beloved nieces and nephews and their families to grieve his loss.  Hank was predeceased by his parents Henry J. Heyen, Sr. and Minni Wormke Heyen and cherished oldest brother Werner and wife Barbara Heyen. He leaves many life long friends around the world from his military and civilian professions. 
Born in 1949 at Port Jefferson NY,  Hank grew up on Long Island, working with his father in his Nesconset Furniture Company, clamming in Long Island Sound, metal detecting, collecting Victorian post cards, and starting his first investment club at 13. After attending Cortland University, Hank joined the Air Force in August 1967 and qualified as a cryptanalyst for the Electronic Security Command, serving tours in England and SAC, Nebraska before being selected by the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force (OSAF) as the first NCO to join the prestigious team of the Special Projects Group within the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) in 1978. Notably, he served with distinction during Vietnam, the Iranian hostage release attempt, Falklands and the Desert Storm conflicts. His last Air Force assignment was at Menwith Hill Station in North Yorkshire, England, until his retirement in 1988. Hank was then hired as the England site manager for Digital Equipment Company and service delivery manager for European services until he and Janice (retired from the NSA) repatriated to settle in the beautiful Florida Panhandle in 1993.  They spent their cooler summers in the "Sugar Shack" cabin in the Smoky mountains. Hank's most rewarding work was in sharing his extensive knowledge of finance and digital networking, complementary to anyone in need. He will also be missed by his worldwide online poker colleagues, a billion dollar winner.  Hank was a life member of AMVETS and the DAV. His favorite charity is the Air Force Enlisted Village (Bob Hope Village), Shalimar, Florida to which he contributed his military collections, time and resources. (The Heyen Library was dedicated in his honor in the Hawthorn House assisted living facility.) A memorial service in the Hope chapel with military honors will take place on July 21, 2018 at 1000. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to the Air Force Enlisted Village, 92 Sunset Lane, Shalimar, Florida 32579.
