Elsa Anna Gillingham, of Niceville, passed away Thursday January 16, 2020 at Twin Cities Hospital due to complications relating to a hip fracture in July. She was born May 22, 1940 to Mabel and Richard Remmers in Berlin Germany. Her childhood included spending several years of the War in an internment camp in Czechoslovakia with her British born mother and 2 brothers. She was a trained seamstress and had great skill and style. As a US military wife she created beautiful homes for her family, wherever they were. The family retired to Niceville 34 years ago. She spent many years working as a retail clerk, you remember her locally at the corner K&B (CVS). Elsa was the nicest lady you’d ever meet, happy to help everyone she came across. She was a devoted wife and mother, adoring Oma and a magnificent cook, but her proudest achievement was becoming an American Citizen.
Elsa is survived by her husband of 50 years, Carl G Gillingham, son Robert and his wife Nancy Gillingham of Las Vegas, daughter Carla and her husband Dennis Curley of Meridian ID, 4 grandsons: Robert Gillingham and his wife Michele with their son, Elsa’s great-grandson Oliver of Meridian ID, SrA Patrick Curley and his wife Breanna of Minot ND, Ryan Curley of Moscow ID, Adam Curley of Meridian ID, and her brother Rudiger Remmers with his wife Marita of Berlin, Germany.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Klaus.
Arrangements by McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home. By her preference, no funeral will be held, a family memorial will be held at a future date.
