American Patriotic 10

Col. Paul L. Grimmig (USAF ret.)

1933 ~ 2022 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Tribute

Paul Grimmig, 88, of Niceville, FL, went peacefully into his Lord and Savior’s presence on the evening of November 21, 2022.  He will be greatly missed, not only by his family but by everyone who knew him.

Paul was born on December 10, 1933, in Memphis, TN, to parents William and Julia Grimmig.  He worked in the family bakery business during his growing-up years in Chattanooga, TN, and Delray Beach, FL, where he met his beloved wife Rae.  Paul retired as a colonel in the United States Air Force after an honorable 30 years of service.  He was a command pilot and was awarded the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, and Distinguished Flying Cross.   After his military retirement, Paul had a highly successful career with Carriage Hills Realty for over 30 years, often being honored as a top sales producer.  He truly enjoyed all the relationships he established as a caring, dedicated and experienced realtor.

Paul was a loving family man, always enjoying visits with his four daughters, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, and considered his sons-in-law as his own sons.  He balanced his careers with many services, social, and church activities.  He was a member of the Daedalians, was an excellent marksman and TAWC golfer who enjoyed yearly hunting trips to Georgia with his buddies, and was a faithful attendee of his church’s Monday night men’s Bible study. He also treasured the monthly First Friday gatherings with friends which started in 1998 and the many vacations, cruises, and road trips to visit family and friends with Rae.  He made a point to be at every significant life event in his family including graduations, weddings, commissionings, promotions, and retirements.

Paul is predeceased by his brother, William Grimmig, sisters Marie Scholze and Frances Grimmig, and his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife Rae of 67 years, his daughters Kathryn (Mark) Shackelford of Trophy Club, TX, Lynn (Bob) Steele of Niceville, Julie (Doug) Gier of Green Bay, WI, and Carol (Kevin) Reece of Monument, CO; his eight grandchildren Lauren (Ben) Mason, Daniel Gier, Megan (David) Rabe, Kelly Shackelford, Kimberly Steele, Matthew Steele, Emily Steele, and Natalie Reece; and his precious great-grandchildren Beatrice, Annaliese, and Samuel Rabe.

A Celebration of Life service will take place on December 5th at 9:30 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Niceville, followed by a brief reception.  Burial will also take place on December 5th at 2:00 pm at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola.
