Charles E. Dowd, Jr.

Charlie E. Dowd, Jr., age 77, passed away June 17, 2020 at home with his family. Charlie fought a valiant 11 year battle with Vascular Dementia and Alzheimers Charlie was born June 29, 1942 in Saginaw, Michigan to his parents Charles and Frances Dowd Sr. Charlie grew up in Fibre, Michigan and after graduating Rudyard High School in 1960, he joined the US Navy, serving 2 years. Charlie and Helen were married December 9, 1967 and were blessed with 52 years of marriage. Charlie accepted a Civil Service position thus the journey to EAFB, Florida and retiring in 2002. Charlie and Helen were very proud of their family and enjoyed many years of camping, and the beach. The Dowd’s home always had an open door to the neighborhood kids, they even hosted a foreign exchange student and hosted many dinners with local airmen. Charlie and Helen always instilled family first and Charlie’s legacy lives on with his wife Helen Dyer Dowd, Missy and Tim Roberts, Chuck and Lori Dowd and grandchildren-Cierra, Robby, Brady, Will, Mae and Thomas. Charlie was blessed to have his children and grandchildren selflessly and lovingly provide amazing care of their Papa. He was proceeded in death by his parents, sister Carolyn and her husband Ron Mitchell, his brother in law, Jim and Ann Dyer of Epoufette, Michigan and brother in law Jack Dyer. He was survived by his sister in law Dottie Glashaw and brother in law Alfred Dyer as well as many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Loryce Dyer Hospice in memory of his mother in law (link) or Emerald Coast Hospice who provided excellent and compassionate care to Charlie. The family would also like to thank Melissa S and Dawn C for the loving care they provided. No local services will be held. Charlies ashes will travel to Michigan and spread at the Dowd resort where Charlie and Helen met.
