Mr. Walter “Steve” Stevens, son of Gwinn Upston was born March 27, 1933, in The Dalles, Oregon.

   He was united in matrimony to Nancy Penner of Fontana California in 1958.  This union was blessed with three children who survive his death. Nancy (now ex-wife) preceded him in death in 2007. Walter remarried Louise Coursey of Niceville Florida in 1977. Louise preceded his death on Oct. 9, 2010, in Niceville, Florida.  Together they owned and operated Stevens' Yesterday's Furnishings until its closure in 2005. There they restored, repaired and refinished antique furniture. After Louise’s death, Steve enjoyed several years of fun and traveling with Millie Duncan of Niceville, FL.

   Mr. Stevens was a retired veteran of the US Air Force of 26 years serving during the Korean Conflict, Cold War and Viet Nam War. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant with an exemplary military service record and numerous decoration including Air Force Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal. He was credited with saving an F-105 and pilot during a combat mission over Southeast Asia, using the boom on his KC-135 to tow the crippled jet back to safety. He quietly departed this life Tuesday, September 5th, 2017 at Twin Cities Hospital in Niceville, Florida.

   His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children. He is survived by three sons; Mike Stevens of Merced, CA., Tom Stevens of Fleming Island, FL., and Pat Stevens of Wichita, Kan. Eight grandchildren; Elisa Stevens, Sammuel Stevens, Tommy Stevens, Katie Stevens, Adam Stevens, Mark Stevens, Summer Stevens, and Spencer Stevens. He is also survived by one stepson; Joseph Coursey of Niceville, FL, and; one stepdaughter; Jacque Kallenbach of Ponce De Leon, FL. Two stepsons preceded his death; Daniel Corsey and Mark Coursey. He also had a step grandchild; Catrina Mathews. He is also survived by his three loving dogs; Coco Bear, Precious Bear and Sugar Bear.

   Graveside services, including full military honors and a Flag line provided by the Patriot Guard Riders, are scheduled for Thursday 14 September 2017 at 12:00 at Heritage Gardens.
