George Andrews Carlton Coggins passed away on 8 March 2024 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.   Andy, as he was known by his friends and family, was 85 years old.

Andy was born on 9 November 1938 to George Coggins and Marion Coggins in Brooklyn, New York where he lived a few years with his sisters, Alice Coggins and Mary Ann Coggins Kaza before moving to Portland, Oregon.    

After graduating high school, he entered the United States Army and served his country for over 20 years.  He started his military career as an enlisted soldier and retired as a commissioned aviation officer in the rank of Major.  Over his career, he served tours of duty both stateside and in Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in combat, the Bronze Star, and the Air Medal for actions in a combat zone. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marion Coggins, sister Alice Coggins, former wives, Barbara Coggins and Judye Coggins, and stepdaughter, Leslie Williamson (Duane). 

He is survived by his wife of nearly 13 years, Gwynn Alcorn Coggins, sister Mary Ann Coggins Kaza, and children George Coggins (Debbie), Christy Walker (P.J.), David Coggins, and Sam Coggins.  He leaves behind two grandchildren, Jordan Coggins and Kristan Coggins, and one great grandchild, Emerson Coggins.  He also leaves behind three stepchildren, Connie Toomey (Denny), Kimberly Emerson (Paul), and Mary Beth Long (Bruce).    

Andy will be laid to rest among his fellow veterans at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, Florida on 19 April 2024 at 1330 hrs. 

We will miss him forever but know he is a part of each and every one of us.
